The Provincial Government of Camarines Norte, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), successfully conducted six (6) Lecture Demonstrations on Fish Processing Technology during the first semester of CY 2025. A total of 100 individuals participated in the activity, comprising 16 males and 84 females. This initiative is part of the province’s ongoing efforts to enhance the technical capacity of fisherfolk by introducing value-adding techniques that can transform their catch into marketable and income-generating products.
The lecture-demonstrations were held in the following areas:
During each session, participants were guided by Ms. Desiree J. Rodriguez, Aquaculturist II, resource person in preparing various processed fish products such as sizzling tahong sisig, fish siomai, fish burger patties, seaweed pickles, seaweed jelly flan and fish salad with emphasis on proper handling, hygiene, food safety standards, and packaging techniques.
The activity also fostered interaction and knowledge-sharing among fisherfolk, enabling them to explore new business opportunities and strategies for product marketing. By equipping participants with practical fish processing skills, OPAg aims to help reduce post-harvest losses, increase product value, and strengthen the economic resilience of coastal communities.
The OPAg emphasized that these capacity-building initiatives are essential in uplifting the livelihoods of fisherfolk and ensuring the sustainability of local fisheries. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the activity and committed to applying their newfound skills within their households and engage in livelihood projects.
