Fishers gained new skills in Shrimp and Seaweeds Production

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist through the Fisheries Development Division, under Regulatory and Aquaculture Support Services initiated two vital training Sessions. These trainings aim to enhance aquaculture practices, provides alternative fishing livelihood, and boost productivity among local fishers.

The first training that was conducted is the Vannamei (Litopenaeus vannamei) Culture Training held at Agro-Sports Center, Provincial Capitol, Daet, Camarines Norte, on June 6, 2024 buzzed with excitement as 30 eager participants gathered for a specialized training on white leg shrimp. These fisherfolks, hailing from various coastal municipalities of the province, came with a shared goal: to improve their shrimp production techniques.

Experts from BFAR-Camarines Norte led the way, diving deep into essential topics like shrimp biology, pond culture management, disease control, and harvesting protocols.

The participants were not just attentive; they were deeply appreciative. “We are very thankful for this training. It provided us with valuable insights and practical knowledge that will surely help improve our production,” said one attendee, echoing what other participants would like also to say.

On May 24, 2024, the serene setting of sitio Biday in Barangay Banocboc, Vinzons, Camarines Norte, serve as the back drop for on-site seaweeds farming training. Sixty seaweeds gathered to learn from seasoned experts, Ms. Bianca Lizly Enverga and Mr. Rainier Avellana, both from BFAR and Camarines Norte. The focus was on the culture management and disease control, crucial aspects of successful seaweed farming.

The participants left the training with a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude. “The knowledge we gained today is invaluable. We are grateful to the organizers and lecturers for providing us with the tools and information needed to enhance our seaweed farming practices,” shared a participant.

Adding to the training’s value, the Provincial local Government of Camarines Norte, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist pledged to provide livelihood assistance to the participants in the form of seaweed farming implements.

These training initiatives are part of a broader effort to support and enhance aquaculture practices, ensuring sustainable growth and increased productivity for local farmers. With their newly acquire knowledge and tools, these fishers are now better equipped to succeed in their agriculture ventures.
